Bilkis's Transformation: From Shyness to Empowerment

Bilki’s, a 23-year-old from Jharkhand, embarked on a life-changing journey when her employer brought her to our centre to learn tailoring. As a full-time maid in Mazgoan, Bilkis's life was marked by hardship and responsibility.

Born into a family of eight, Bilkis's father struggles with mental health issues, leaving her brother as the primary breadwinner. Her mother is a homemaker, and one of her sisters is married. Bilki’s, having completed 10th standard, has shouldered the responsibility of supporting her family for the past three years, working as a housemaid in various homes.

Initially, Bilki’s was extremely shy and reserved. However, through our tailoring classes, she blossomed into a confident and cheerful individual, eagerly awaiting each session and interacting warmly with everyone.

As Bilki’s mastered tailoring skills, she began stitching small items for her employer, utilizing the sewing machine at their home. Now she returns home to establish herself as a seamstress, acquiring a machine and taking on stitching jobs to supplement her family's income.

Bilkis's story exemplifies resilience, determination, and the impact of skill-based training on transforming lives.
